It’s nearly that time again! Friday evening dinner is on the horizon and ahead of my next Instagram Live cookalong session with chef Jan Ostle from Wilson’s restaurant (7pm, Friday 19th June) see below my wine choices to go with Jan’s guineafowl, turnips, baby gem and a sprinkling of tangy cheese.

You may have been lucky enough to have got your hands on the Waterkloof Cinsault from South Africa, from Wilson’s, but alas it is now sold out, so here are my alternatives for Friday night dinner!

This exquisite meal can go with red OR white wine, so here are some ideas available at Majestic Wine Warehouse.

Morgon La Ballofière, Jean-Paul Dubost 2018 (Majestic £16.99 / £12.99 Mix 6 price)

• This is a red wine.
• Morgon is known for producing Beaujolais that is every bit as beautiful as Burgundian Pinot Noir. (This is made from the Gamay grape)
• The vines are around 70-years-old (30% of the juice is aged in oak barrels).
• Nose: Violet, cherry and banana caramel. I know! It sounds bonkers!
• Palate: Quite rich for a Beaujolais: Juicy, robust cherry and plummy flavours with hints of violet.
• Serve slightly chilled.

Wakefield Jaraman Chardonnay 2018 (Majestic £17.99 / £15.99 Mix 6 price)

• This is a white wine.
• A blend of grapes from Clare Valley & Margaret River in Australia.
• Nose: Apricots and flint. Popcorn hints too.
• Palate: Nectarine and hints of citrus (lemon and tangerine). Good rich texture but thanks to the minerality, it’s not too buttery. There’s a steak of freshness that gives you something that you don’t always expect from Australian Chardonnay.

Domaine Rolet Arbois Chardonnay 2016 (Majestic £16.99 / £14.99 Mix 6 price)

• This is a white wine.
• From Jura in Eastern France, near Switzerland. Grapes are from different plots planted on the slopes of the area.
• Made in the same area as Comte cheese, so great with delicate, nutty tasting cheese.
• Nose: Coconut cream and white pepper.
• Palate: Apricots and butter. Streak of minerality and lemon juice on the finish.
