Say Cheese!

Last week saw the 27^th Annual World Cheese Awards. It was held at the NEC in Birmingham amongst the buzz of the BBC Good Food Show Winter. Thousands of hungry foodies, a gaggle of the best TV chefs in the business and over 2000 cheeses made for a busy and entertaining day.

Each of the 250 or so judges were in groups of 4 tasting around 40 cheeses each, so just a few more cheeses to taste than when my inquisitive (and indecisive) pallet is putting the cheese board together! And like any cheese board, there were favourites and the odd inevitable disappointment. After 2 ½ hours hours, a few selected dairy masterpieces were put forward to the final panel and to cut a long and very tasty story short, a winner was named. It was Le Gruyere AOP Premier Cru. It was crowned World Champion for a record fourth time! Congratulations to all involved in it’s production!
